(NAR) VOL. 9 NO. 2 / APRIL - JUNE 1998

[ BOC MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 121-98, March 30, 1998 ]

REMOVAL OF CERTAIN IMPORTED ARTICLES FROM MAV

For your information and guidance is a copy of the letter of the Secretary of Agriculture dated 13 March 1998 relative to Executive Order No. 465 (E.O. 465)*, which modified the nomenclature and rates of import duty on certain imported articles pursuant to Section 104 of the Tariff and Customs Code of 1978 (Presidential Decree No. 1464 as amended), inviting attention to paragraphs 2 and 3 of the above mentioned letter, which in brief avers the following:

1. E.O. 465 has, in effect removed line bovine animals (HS 02.01) and frozen beef (HS 02.02) from the minimum access volume (MAV) system by abolishing the MAV's for said products and setting a single tariff rate for each of the said products.

2. There is no longer a need for MAV Import Certificates (MAVICs) for the said products, since the quotas or minimum access volumes have been abolished.

In view of the foregoing, all concerned are hereby informed that MAVICs are NO LONGER REQUIRED for the importation of live bovine animals, fresh or chilled beef, and frozen beef made after the date of effectivity of E.O. 465.

Adopted:30 March 1998
