BAN AGAINST IMPORTATION OF UK BEEF AND BEEF PRODUCTS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY



Upon official advice from the Department of Trade and Industry, the European Unions banned export of UK beef and beef products. In the Interest of consumer safety and protection and upon urgent circumstances arising from European Union’s sweeping ban of export in response to the so-called “mad cow” disease, the importation from United Kingdom (UK) of —

1. all live animals including calves, meat of slaughtered cattle, sperm, embryos

2. all products made from beef and veal and their derivatives where the animals have been slaughtered in the UK, including

a. gelatin and fat used in a wide range of food products

b. products used for medicinal, cosmetic and pharmaceutical purposes

c. biscuits, yoghurt and ice cream is hereby immediately banned.

Distribution likewise of these products or products using the aforedescribed products from UK is therefore prohibited in the interest of consumer protection.
