[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 12, S. 1997, June 09, 1997 ]

GUIDELINES ON THE EXTENSION OF THE MAXIMUM CONTRACT TERM LIMIT FROM TWO (2) TO THREE (3) YEARS FOR EXPATRIATE WORKERS IN TAIWAN



All categories of workers whose visas are expiring on 23 May 1997 and onward are eligible to apply for a third year extension of their employment visas, subject to the following guidelines released by the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) of Taiwan:

1.         Workers whose employment visas expired on or before 22 May 1997 can not apply for extension.

2.         Those whose two-year visas expire from 23 May 1997 until 30 June 1997 should apply for a third year extension on or before 14 June 1997

3.         Those whose visas will expire after 30 June 1997 should apply for a third year extension 60 days or 7 days, at the least, before the expiry date.

4.         Third year extensions are valid only until 01 June 1999.

The usual medical examination requirement and schedule shall apply.

Entities conducting Pre-Departure orientation Seminar (PDOS) are enjoined to emphasize this to workers during lectures.
