MORATORIUM ON THE IMPORTATION OF BROILER PARENT STOCKS FOR THE YEAR 2003



WHEREAS, the Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Animal Industry's Task Force on Meat Price and Volume Watch had conducted a consultative meeting with the Broiler and Layer Industry as represented by the Philippine Association of Broiler Integrators (PABI), the United Broiler Raiser's Association (UBRA) and the National Federation of Egg Producers of the Philippines (NFEPP) on January 28, 2003 at the Philippine Animal Health Center (PAHC) Conference Room, Bureau of Animal Industry;

WHEREAS, after thorough deliberations and evaluations, the Bureau of Animal Industry and the Broiler Industry agreed that there will be surplus of grown broilers in the whole year of 2003 due to the influx of the importation of Parent Stocks in 2001 and 2002;

WHEREAS, there is a need to regulate importation of Broiler Grand Parent Stocks and for a moratorium on the importation of Parent Stocks in 2003;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LUIS P. LORENZO, JR., Secretary of Agriculture, by the powers vested in me by law, do hereby institute an emergency measure regulating the importation of Broiler Grand Parent Stocks and suspending the importation of Broiler Parent Stocks into the Philippines.

This Administrative Order shall take effect immediately and shall remain in force until revoked.
