ADOPTION OF 4-DIGIT EXCHANGE CODES FOR AREA CODE “2”



For the purpose of rationalizing the existing exchange codes and pursuant to the Commission’s objective to efficiently allocate exchange codes in view of the limited number of available exchange codes in area code “2”, the Commission adopts 4-digit exchange codes for area code “2” covering Metro Manila; San Pedro, Laguna and the Province of Rizal.

SECTION 1.       For the purpose of this Circular, Number Prefixing shall be the method for expansion to the 4-digit exchange code.

SECTION 2.       The existing duly authorized Local Exchange Carriers in area code “2” shall be assigned a digit prefix except digits “0”, “1”, and “9”.

SECTION 3. The change in exchange codes from 3-digit to 4-digit for all exchanges in area code “2” shall be implemented simultaneously on 01 February 2001. At least six (6) months prior to the implementation, the Local Exchange Carriers shall inform all affected subscribers.

All Local Exchange Carriers in area code “2” shall adhere strictly to the herein prescribed Numbering Plan.

Any rules, regulations, circular, memoranda and orders inconsistent herewith shall be deemed superseded, amended, or repealed.

This Circular takes effect fifteen (15) days after publication in a newspaper of general circulation and three (3) certified true copies furnished the UP Law Center.
