AMENDING PNS 15-5:1996, AS IMPLEMENTED BY DAO 6, SERIES OF 1996



Whereas, there is a need to modify the scope, add requirements to extinguishing medium, provided under PNS 15-5:1996.

NOW THEREFORE, the following are hereby ordered proposed as amendment thereto.

SECTION 1.       Clause 1 of PNS 15-5:1996 is hereby amended and to read as follows:
"1.     Scope

This standard specifies requirements for metal bodied, clean extinguishing agent-halon substitute portable fire extinguishers without any special feature. These contain electrically non-conductive agents that are effective media for extinguishing fires and leave no residue upon evaporation for use in residential or non-residential area as applicable. This covers materials, methods of manufacture and performance of stored pressure type fire extinguishers."
SECTION 2.       Sub-clause 4.1.1 is hereby amended to read as follows:
"4.1.1       The charge or the extinguishing medium shall be one of the halon replacement chemicals that is included in the latest issue of the USEPA SNAP list.

4.1.1.1     The purity for single chemical shall be 99.0 % min.

4.1.1.2     For blended chemicals, the acceptable composition shall be determined on the basis of the disclosure of the formulator."
Note — Formulator refers to the company who did the blending

Clause 3.            This order shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in two newspapers of general circulation.
