[ MMDA RESOLUTION NO. 02-46, s. 2002, November 07, 2002 ]

APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE MERALCO STANDARDS ON STREETLIGHTING FOR APPLICATION BY THE METROPOLITAN MANILA DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS OF METRO MANILA



WHEREAS, in 1996, the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) formulated the Standards Engineering Specification on Streetlighting Facilities and Appurtenances;

WHEREAS, said Standards have been strictly followed by contractors through the DPWH-Bureau of Design; 

WHEREAS, said Standards were designed to achieve the following objectives: (1) help minimize road accidents; (2) promote peace and order; (3) stimulate economic activities; (4) attract tourist and foreign investors; and (5) support the various projects of the government; 

WHEREAS, said Standards conform with the requirements of the Philippine Electrical Code; 

WHEREAS, the MERALCO Standards ensure adequate and efficient lighting, safety conformity and savings in maintenance over long-terms; 

WHEREAS, the Metro Manila Council (Council) in session duly assembled, have been fully convinced that said Standards are necessary to ensure peace and order, spur economic development and support government infrastructure programs which are essential components in building a strong republic in the premiere region. 

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved as it is hereby resolved, pursuant to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 7924, that the Council hereby approves and adopts the MERALCO Standards on Streetlighting for application by the MMDA and Local Government Units (LGUs) of Metro Manila. 

This resolution shall take effect upon approval.
