REVISED AGE AND TONNAGE (OR BHP) LIMITATION AND CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS OF VARIOUS VESSEL TYPES FOR INTERISLAND USE



Please be informed that the Maritime Industry Board, In its meeting on 26 June 1986, has approved the following revised guidelines/limitations in the importation or bareboat charter of vessels for interisland use:

Total restriction

To ensure the safety of passengers, all passenger, cargo-passenger and ferry vessels hereinafter acquired, either by importation or bareboat charter, must be classed by an internationally recognized classification society.  All other vessel types to be imported or chartered shall be subject to the submission of the latest survey report issued by a MARINA accredited surveying company or surveyed by MARINA surveyors in appropriate cases.

The importation or bareboat charter of vessels for interisland use beyond the size and age limitations hereinabove provided shall be allowed only in extremely meritorious cases.

It is hereby understood that the foregoing provisions shall not apply to the acquisition of fishing vessels and tankers which shall be governed by existing guidelines.

This Circular shall take effect immediately.
