[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 01, S. 2005, January 05, 2005 ]

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY ON INCIDENTS CONCERNING OVERSEAS FILIPINO SEAFARERS



Effective immediately, all foreign shipping principals, licensed manning agencies and Philippine overseas shipping companies shall report to the POEA, not later than twenty-four (24) hours from the time of occurrence, significant incidents concerning employed Filipino seafarers such as the following:

    1. Death
    2. Injury or illness
    3. Detention in foreign ports
    4. Abandonment in foreign ports
    4. Missing
    5. Desertion

The report shall enable the POEA to take the immediate appropriate action, and where necessary, coordinate with Philippine Embassies/Consulates and Philippine Overseas Labor Offices and with other concerned government and non-government entities to ensure the delivery of assistance needed by the seafarers and their families.
