(NAR) VOL. 16 NO. 1 / JANUARY - MARCH 2005

[ POEA ADVISORY NO. 09, S. 2004, November 02, 2004 ]

TWO-WEEK AMNESTY FOR ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN MALAYSIA

Filipinos who are illegally staying and working in Malaysia are advised to take advantage of the two-week amnesty for all illegal immigrants granted by the Malaysian government beginning 29 October 2004. The special amnesty program is open to all illegal migrant workers regardless of their immigration offense. Those who would avail of the program would be allowed to return to their home country without being jailed or whipped. The program will also benefit the 6,000 migrant workers presently held at the different detention centers all over Malaysia.

Preparation for the dispatch to Sabah, Malaysia of the Philippine Embassy's Mobile Assistance Teams (MATs) to handle the deportation of thousands of Filipino illegal immigrants that would be covered under the said amnesty is underway.

For the information of all concerned.
