[ POEA ADVISORY NO. 04, s. 2007, February 19, 2007 ]
METHAMPHETAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE DECLARED A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE IN THE KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN
Methamphetamine hydrochloride, more popularly known as “shabu” has been classified dangerous by the Kingdom of Bahrain and listed as banned addictive substance. The Bahraini government has prescribed stiffer penalties and fines to curb the flow of this drug and to dissuade would-be smugglers from carrying shabu into their country.
The publics are advised of the risk of imprisonment for transporting wittingly and unwittingly prohibited substances and drugs into other countries. Commission of this offense is a cause for disciplinary action for overseas Filipino workers (OFW).
In view of the foregoing, the POEA may, motu proprio conduct proceedings and impose appropriate penalties against OFWs on the basis of Philippine Embassy or Philippine Overseas Labor Office official reports on OFWs serving sentence in foreign countries for possession / use / trafficking of illegal drugs and other offenses punishable by Philippine and host country laws. These OFWs shall be subjected to penalties as prescribed in Disciplinary Action Cases against Filipino workers under the Rules and Regulations Governing the Recruitment and Employment of Landbased Workers and the POEA Rules and Regulations Governing the Recruitment and Employment of Seafarers.
