RP PREPARATION FOR COMPLIANCE WITH LONG RANGE IDENTIFICATION TRACKING (LRIT) OF SHIPS



With the implementation of the LRIT by 01 January 2009, all concerned are advised to check the compatibility of their communication equipment on board ships with the requirements of LRIT under various IMO issuances but not limited to:

1. IMO Resolution MSC.2 11(81) on the Arrangements for the Timely Establishment of the Long-Range Identification and Tracking of Ships adopted on 19 May 2006;
2. IMO Resolution MSC.210(81) on the Performance Standards and Functional Requirements for the Long-Range Identification and Tracking of Ships adopted on 19 May 2006; and
3. IMO Resolution MSC.254(83) including its Annex on the Adoption of Amendments to the Performance Standards and Functional Requirements for the Long-Range Identification and Tracking of Ships adopted on 12 October 2007.

This Advisory also serves to guide all concerned to ensure that their on-board communication equipment could meet the conformance test that would be conducted by the Flag-State appointed Application Service Provider (ASP), which would be advised after compliance with appropriate rules and regulations on contracting services.

Advise is also given to all concerned to check the website http://www.lrit.com for more technical details in the Long-Range Identification Tracking (LRIT) of Ships.

This Advisory takes effect immediately and modifies MARINA Advisory No. 2008-13 issued on 17 July 2008.
