EXTENSION OF THE PERIOD TO DECLARE UNREGISTERED IMPORTED FOOD PRODUCTS UNDER BUREAU CIRCULAR NO. 4, SERIES OF 1997



The BFAD Management Committee has acknowledged the need to review and update the standards and requirements for licensing of food importers registration of imported food products; hence, it is currently reviewing the said requirements.

While such review is on-going, food importers are required to register their imported products according to the existing requirements. For those food importers who have not or are not complying with the BFAD registration requirements under DOH-AO No. 37 s, 1979, BFAD is hereby extending the period for declaration of unregistered imported food under the conditions set in Bureau Circular No. 4 series of 1997 up to December 31, 1997.

All those unregistered products declared before December 31, 1997 shall be allowed to stay in the market until March 31, 1998 , provided that, those importers who shall intend to continue importing and marketing the products after December 31, 1997 shall apply for the regular registration in BFAD for those products to cover their future importation.

This is intended to ensure the accountability for the quality and safety of the products in the interest of consumer protection.
