(NAR) VOL.8 NO. 4 / OCTOBER - DECEMBER 1997

[ PPA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 17-95, April 11, 1995 ]

ADDENDUM TO MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 09-95 "ASSISTANCE TO THE EFFORTS OF THE BUREAU OF ANIMAL INDUSTRY (BAI) RE OUTBREAK OF FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE"

In addition to the control measures specified under PPA Memorandum Circular 09-95, and as requested by BAI in conjunction with DA AO No. 7 dated 24 Mar 95, all concerned shall undertake the following actions to prevent the further spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD):

1.         Shipowners with vessels departing from Manila are directed to dean and disinfect cargo vans and to install footbaths at the foot of the stairs/gangplanks for passengers to step on prior to boarding the vessel.

2.         Shipping lines docking at the ports of Visayas and Mindanao and other regions which are declared FMD-free zones are also directed to properly dispose swill and other waste materials and not to dump them at said ports.

3.         To ensure that the virus causing the disease would be contained only in Luzon, movement of these products out of Luzon is prohibited, until further notice.

4.         PDOs/PMOs are directed to support and closely coordinate with the local BAI quarantine officers in monitoring the movement in ports of animals, fresh or chilled meat, chicken dung, FMD vaccines and processed meat within Luzon.

Be guided accordingly.
