(NAR) VOL. III NO. 4 / OCTOBER - DECEMBER 1992

[ DECS ORDER NO. 62 S. 1992, June 16, 1992 ]

CLARIFICATIONS ON THE PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING HONORS FOR ACCELERATED PUPILS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

To respond to the many queries received from the field regarding computation of honors where accelerated pupils are concerned, paragraphs 2b and c of MECS Order No. 44, s. 1983, entitled Revised Procedure for Determining Honor Pupils in Elementary Schools, should be further amended to read:
2b. All deserving pupils graduating from the regular classes including those who were accelerated and those enrolled in classes for the mentally gifted in the schools shall be considered in the selection of honor pupils.

c. Scholarship and character shall be based on the general averages for the last year, i.e., Grade VI only.  For accelerated pupils, the last year refers to the first semester in the previous grade and the second semester for the present grade.
This Order supersedes DECS Order No. 27, s. 1988, Guidelines for Determining Honor Pupils in Schools Where There Are Accelerated Pupils.

Immediate dissemination of this Order to all concerned is desired.

Adopted: 16 June 1992
