[ PRC BOARD OF DENTISTRY RESOLUTION NO. 08, S. OF 2006, September 13, 2006 ]

AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 14, SERIES OF 2005, PRESCRIBING THE EXPANDED SCOPE OF THE DENTAL PERFORMANCE LICENSURE EXAMINATION IN THE AREAS OF CLINICAL PRACTICE OF DENTISTRY



WHEREAS, Sec. 18, Art. IV of R.A. 4419, known as “The Philippine Dental Act of 1965” states in part, to wit: “Section 18. Scope of Examination - The licensure examination for the practice of dentistry in the Philippines shall consist of both written and performance tests, the scope of which shall be determined and prescribed by the Board x x x x”;

WHEREAS, the Board issued Res. No. 14, Series of 2005, Prescribing the Expanded Scope of the Dental Performance Licensure Examination through distribution of the exercises to more areas in the clinical practice of dentistry;

WHEREAS, there is a need to include further in the said areas Radiographic Interpretation in the clinical practice of dentistry;

WHEREAS, the reasons for the said inclusion are the following: to measure the examinee’s competency in such area, to enable him/her to diagnose the case accurately with the use of such area as a diagnostic tool for the formation of the treatment plan, and to make him/her aware on radiographic interpretation’s important role as the starting point of early procedure; and

WHEREAS, likewise there is a need for the exclusion in said performance examination in Pediatric Dentistry, and Endodontics, considering that these exercises will be highly expensive to the examinees;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board Resolves, as it is hereby resolved, to amend Resolution No. 10, Series of 2005, prescribing the expanded scope of the Dental Performance Licensure Examination through distribution of the exercises to these areas in the clinical practice of Dentistry as follows:

RESOLVED, FURTHER, no exercises shall involve the use of live patient in Complete Denture Construction; and

FINALLY RESOLVED, the herein Resolution shall be implemented in the December 2006 and every subsequent Dental Performance Licensure Examination.

This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its full and complete publication in the Official Gazette or any newspaper of general circulation in the Philippines
