(NAR) VOL. III NO. 4 / OCTOBER - DECEMBER 1992

[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 84 S. 1992, November 17, 1992 ]

CAUTION ON FILIPINO WORKERS REGARDING TALKS ON RELIGION ESPECIALLY OF ISLAM

Relative to the recent Incident involving Indian actors who faced trial in the United Arab Emirates for their role in a play which was regarded as blasphemous against Islam and Christianity, the Department of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to Filipino overseas workers, particularly performing artists and entertainers bound for the Gulf region.

To avoid similar trouble which could lead to either deportation or imprisonment, Filipino workers are advised to be "cautious about talks or actions, done whether seriously or in jest, regarding religion, especially of Islam."

Licensed agencies and entities, particularly those conducting pre-departure orientation seminar are enjoined to disseminate the above information to departing contract workers.

For information and guidance.
