[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR No. 15 s. 1998, September 02, 1998 ]
SUBMISSION OF INFORMATION ON THE DEPLOYMENT OF RADIO OFFICERS
On account of the coming into force of an international regulation that all cargo and passenger vessels of 300 GRT and above be fitted with Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) equipments effective February 1999 and its effect on the anticipated phase-out of Radio Officers from ocean-going vessels, the POEA is undertaking an inventory of registered and on-board Radio Officers to enable this Office to assess the impact of the said eventually and undertake appropriate courses of action.
In this regard, it is requested that this office be provided with relevant information by the sectors concerned particularly on the following:
1. Number of Radio Officers presently employed. Indicate name of principal, name of vessel, flag of registry, type of vessel and gross tonnage.
2. Number of Radio Officers who are on stand by and awaiting development;
3. Deployment of Radio Officers from January 1997 to August 1998.
4. Agency's/company's assessment of the present and future demands for the said position. similar assessment from principals, if available, may be submitted.
5. Names and addresses of principals who continue to request/employ Radio Officers.
Please submit your report on or before September 30, 1998.
The cooperation of the above sectors in this undertaking is hereby enjoined.
