(NAR) VOL. 5 NO. 2/APRIL-JUNE 1994

[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 39, s. 1994, June 03, 1994 ]

WAR RISK PREMIUM PAY FOR ALL VESSELS PAYING NEAR AND AROUND THE PORT OF ADEN

In accordance with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration's (POEA) authority to determine war risk areas and premium pay and in view with the on-going civil war in Yemen, the POEA Governing Board, after tripartite consultations, issued POEA Governing Board Resolution No. 8, Series of 1984, declaring the Port of Aden in Yemen, a war risk trading area, bounded by the area within the perimeter:

Latitude 12 degrees 39.5 North;
Longitude 44 degrees 48.5 East;
Longitude 45 degrees 06 East;
Latitude 12 degrees 52 North.

All Filipino seafarers onboard vessels trading within the above mentioned area are entitled to war risk bonus of one hundred (100%) percent of the basic wage. The minimum payment is two (02) calendar days.

The duration of this resolution is from 03 to 30 June 1994, or until the fighting stops within this period.

The above declaration, however, is a subject to review and update from time to time, depending on the situation prevailing in Yemen.

Without prejudice to the above, governments or owners/principals employing Filipino seafarers, may prescribe a broader area of coverage and higher benefits.

The said Governing Board Resolution is effective immediately.

Adopted: 3 June 1994
