(NAR) VOL. IV NO. 1 / JANUARY - APRIL 1993

[ NTC MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 8-7-92, July 21, 1992 ]

AMENDMENT TO SEC. 5A OF MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR 1-04-88 RE: RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING EQUIPMENT PROVIDED BY CUSTOMERS/SUBSCRIBERS OF PUBLIC NETWORKS

The Commission takes cognizance of the fact that a number of dealers/distributors are selling customer premises equipment (CPEs) without securing proper accreditation from it.  This practice is not only prejudicial to the accredited suppliers concerned but also to the general public.

For this purpose and to protect public interest, Section 5 paragraph a of Memorandum Circular No. 1-04-88 is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Only type-approved CPEs purchased from suppliers duly accredited by the National Telecommunications Commission shall be connected to a public telecommunications network, except CPEs brought into the country by a subscriber in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 5-2-92."
Hence, any CPE purchased not in accordance with the above provision shall not be allowed for connection to a public telecommunications network.

This Circular shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its publication in a newspaper of general circulation and shall remain valid unless otherwise amended, revised, or revoked.

Adopted: 21 July 1992
