(NAR) VOL. 20 NO.3 / JULY - SEPTEMBER 2009

[ MARINA ADVISORY NO. 2009-13, May 26, 2009 ]

PROHIBITION OF MANDATORY SALE OF ADDITIONAL INSURANCE POLICY TO PASSENGERS PRIOR TO BOARDING

Pursuant to Section 1.1, Rule IX of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 9295, all domestic shipowners or operators are required to submit adequate insurance coverage for each passenger in the amount not less than Two Hundred Thousand Pesos (P200,000.00) per manifested passenger.

This Compulsory Passenger Insurance Coverage submitted by shipowners/operators already covers its manifested passengers in case of any incident, hence, additional insurance coverage is not necessary nor mandatory.

Therefore, Notice is hereby given that the mandatory sale of additional passenger insurance policy to passengers prior to boarding is PROHIBITED. The sale of additional passenger insurance policy is not a requirement of this Authority.

The MARINA Central Office and its ten (10) Regional Offices (ROs) are hereby directed and ordered to post this Advisory at all ports, ships, domestic shipowners or operator’s premises, passenger terminals and ticketing offices.

This Advisory shall take effect immediately.

For strict compliance.

Adopted: 26 May 2009
