ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NEWLY ACQUIRED SHIPS FOR DOMESTIC OPERATION, WHOSE OPERATION IN THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN IS LIMITED TO SMOOTH WATER



In line with the declared policy to enhance maritime safety, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) adopts the following guidelines in its evaluation of any application for authority to acquire foreign-registered ships pursuant to MARINA Memorandum Circular No. 104, whose operation in the country of origin is limited to smooth water. Such vessels shall only be allowed for coastwise voyages in the Philippines after complying with the requirements set by the MARINA or an Organization recognized by it, based upon the conduct of a survey to determine the extent of modifications that the ship will have to undergo to qualify in the coastwise voyage, specifically on the following:

a) Hull Scantling;
b) Main Deck Watertight Doors;
c) Port/Starboard Side Openings;
d) Flush and Raised Manholes;
e) Airvents and Deck Fittings; and f)  Deck Machineries, etc.
