(NAR) VOL. IV NO. 1 / JANUARY - APRIL 1993

[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 05 s. 1993, February 22, 1993 ]

ABOLITION OF ATTESTATION OF CONTRACT OF FOREIGN DOMESTIC HELPERS BY THE HONGKONG LABOUR DEPARTMENT

Effective 01 MARCH 1993, the Hongkong Labour Department will no longer attest employment contracts of foreign domestic helpers prior to submission to the Immigration Department as previously required.  Henceforth, the Immigration Department will only accept contracts made in the new form, or old contracts attested by the Labour Department before 01 March 1993.

The Immigration Department will continue to process visas after the contract have been duly verified and authenticated by the Philippine Consulate.

Intended to simplify procedures in contract processing, the abolition of attestation of contracts for foreign domestic helpers in Hongkong will not affect the level of protection domestic helpers in the Colony enjoy.  The Hongkong Labour Department will continue to provide consultation and conciliation services to the domestic helpers and employers.

For information and guidance.

Adopted: 22 Feb. 1993
