RENAMING OF SCHOOLS

1. DECS Order No. 5, s. 1989 on the requirements of renaming of schools particularly, No. 3 (e) 1 .b which states "A resolution adopted by the Sangguniang Bayan or Sangguniang Panlalawigan indorsing the change and the adoption of a new name for the school" has been superseded by Sec. 99 (d) of R.A. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code.

2. Under the Code, the Local School Board, as one of its functions can recommend to the Local Sangunian the change of name of the school. The Local Sanggunian then enacts an ordinance.

4. Immediate and wide dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.

Adopted: 9 Sept. 1999
