(NAR) VOL. 16 NO. 4 / OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2005

[ SUGAR ORDER NO. 1-B, SERIES OF 2005-2006, November 11, 2005 ]

REVISED SUGAR POLICY ON THE CLASSIFICATION AND PERCENTAGE ALLOCATION FOR CY 2005-2006

WHEREAS, there are strong indications that the U.S. will increase its quota allocation to the Philippines this crop year;

WHEREAS, the Philippines needs time to be able to set aside a portion of its production to fulfill any increase in quota;

WHEREAS, fulfilling the quota is still to the best interest of the sugar producers, the U.S. being a premium market;

WHEREAS, there is adequate sugar supply to set aside for the U.S. market, without compromising domestic supply;

WHEREAS, the best estimate is that the U.S. sugar supply shortfall due to the damage caused by the various calamities that have hit the sugar producing areas would be as high as 460,000 Metric Tons, of which around 300,000 Metric Tons will most probably be supplied by TRQ sugar, translating to around a 40,000 Metric Tons increase in the Philippine U.S. quota.

NOW, THEREFORE, under and by virtue of the authority vested in the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), it is hereby ordered that:

SECTION 1. The classification and percentage allocation of sugar production under SRA Sugar Order No. 1-A, Series of 2005-2006 are hereby revised:

"B" or Domestic Sugar -90.00%_
Total -
100.00%

SECTION 2. This Sugar Order shall take effect for production weekending November 20, 2005

SECTION 3. Other provisions of Sugar Order No. 1, Series of 2005-2006 shall remain in full force and effect.

SECTION 4. Provisions of Sugar Orders, Circular Letters, rules and regulations contrary to or inconsistent with this Sugar Order are hereby revised, modified or revoked accordingly.
