[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 50, s. 1993, October 14, 1993 ]

GUIDELINES ON THE DEPLOYMENT OF HOUSEHOLD WORKERS TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA



Pursuant to Department Order No. 25, series of 1993 prescribing measures to further improve protection in the deployment of household workers, the following guidelines shall apply to all hirings of household workers to the United States, effective immediately:

1.         The minimum salary of US$ 170 per week shall be strictly enforced.

2.         The Standard Employment Contract shall be used to guide employers in defining the terms and conditions of employment for the worker.  However, to facilitate the approval and processing of Employment Contracts by the POEA, the use of the Standard Employment Contract by employers is encouraged.

3.         To effect the proper screening of employers, the verification and authentication of employment contracts by the Philippine Embassy or the Philippine Consulate shall be a pre-requisite for processing by the POEA.  This requirement shall apply to all contracts including those of workers hired by members of the foreign diplomatic corps and officers of international organizations.

This Circular supersedes all other issuances inconsistent herewith.
