(NAR) VOL. 21 NO.4 OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2010

[ POEA ADVISORY NO. 21, S. 2010, October 20, 2010 ]

CAUTION ON THE USE OF VISIT VISA FOR OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

The Philippine Consulate in Dubai, United Arab Emirates has reported that some visit visa holders who are sponsored by private individuals and semi-skilled workers such as cleaner, waiter, waitress and ordinary laborer/helper are being recruited as household service workers (HSWs). This practice is being used as a channel for illegal recruitment and human trafficking.

In the light of these reports, the general public, particularly those who are planning to work in Dubai are advised to have their employment contracts verified at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and workers should see to it that they have an employment visa rather than a visit visa. This procedure is part of the regular processing and issuance of travel exit clearance for OFWs to the UAE.

For the information and guidance of all concerned.
