SUPPLEMENT TO MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 2009-029 RE: YEAR MODEL PROPOSED AS SUBSTITUTE FOR AUTHORIZED TAXI UNITS SPECIFICALLY THE PROVISION ON THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATION AND MEASUREMENT OF TAXI UNITS

The Board, in the exercise of its powers to formulate, promulgate, administer, implement and enforce standards and/or measurements and/or designs of public utility vehicles as provided for under Executive Order No. 202, Section 5, paragraph k. and in view of recent developments in the car manufacturing industry in terms of safety and fuel efficiency of smaller (compact) cars than that prescribed under MC 2009-029, hereby promulgate and implement to allow four (4) door compact or smaller sedan to be used as taxi units which were not allowed under MC 2009-029.

Henceforth, the following minimum dimension, safety and comfort features shall be required for all authorized taxi units.

Minimum Dimension

Sedan with more than Piston Displacement of 1200 cc (rated)

Wheelbase - 2500 mm
Sedans falling under this category which are diesel or gasoline fed shall have a life span of thirteen (13) years pursuant to DO 2004-42. However, those sedans which are converted to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) engine fed shall have an additional two (2) years pursuant to MC 2006-069.

Sedan with Piston Displacement of 1200 cc (rated)

Sedans falling under this category which are diesel or gasoline fed shall have a life span of ONLY ten (10) years commencing from the date of manufacture as stated in its Certificate of Registration.

Luggage Compartment - Actual volume measurement, which should be at least 310 liters

All issuances inconsistent herewith are hereby superseded and amended accordingly and takes effect immediately after the filing of three (3) copies hereof with the UP Law Center, pursuant to Presidential Memorandum Circular No. 11, dated October 1992.
