[ POEA Advisory No. 29, s. 2014, December 11, 2014 ]

INCREASE IN THE MINIMUM ALLOWABLE WAGE (MAW) AND FOOD ALLOWANCE FOR FOREIGN DOMESTIC HELPERS IN HONG KONG

Adopted: 11 December 2014
Date Filed: 07 January 2015

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Hong Kong reported that the Hong Kong government has decided to raise the Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW) and food allowance for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs).

The decision increased the monthly MAW from HK$4,010.00 to HK$4,110 and food allowance from HK$920.00 to HK$964.00.

The new MAW and food allowance apply to all employment contracts signed on or after 01 October 2014. The previous MAW of HK$4,010.00 and food allowance of HK$920.00 will still be accepted provided that the contracts were signed on or before 30 September 2014 and processed by the Philippine Consulate General on or before 21 October 2014.

The decision by the HK government to raise the MAW and food allowance for FDHs was reached after a regular review of Hong Kong’s general economic and employment conditions and relevant consumer price index.

For the information and guidance of all concerned.
