APPROVAL OF THE REVISED POLICY AND PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES ON THE GSIS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

WHEREAS, the GSIS Scholarship Program (GSP), launched in 1998 as part of the System’s corporate social responsibility of helping the deserving and underprivileged earn a college degree from schools that provide quality education, has been continually revised to further improve the program and ensure that the needs of scholars will be met;

WHEREAS, the existing Revised GSIS Scholarship Program Policy and Procedural Guidelines (PPG No. 263-14), approved through Board Resolution No. 137 dated 11 September 2014, need the following enhancements:

  1. Allocation of scholarship slots for the special sectors of Persons With Disabilities (PWD), Indigenous People (IP), and Solo/Single Parents (SP) as defined under Republic Act No. 8972 (Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2000);
  2. Revision of the selection process to include the special sectors;
  3. Clarification concerning a member who has more than one child receiving scholarships for different academic years; and
  4. Awarding of an unclaimed scholarship slot to the next-in-line lowest salaried applicant from the same region;

WHEREAS, the Vice President, Corporate Communications Office, in her Memorandum dated 08 April 2015, submitted a revised PPG on the GSP, incorporating the above-mentioned amendments;

RESOLVED, to APPROVE and CONFIRM, the Revised Policy and Procedural Guidelines on the GSIS Scholarship Program, as proposed by the Vice President, Corporate Communications Office, in her Memorandum dated 08 April 2015.

RESOLVED FURTHER, that Board Resolution No. 137 dated 11 September 2014 and other existing Board Resolutions, PPGs, and internal issuances that are inconsistent herewith are hereby AMENDED and/or SUPERSEDED.

A copy of the Revised Policy and Procedural Guidelines on the GSIS Scholarship Program[*] is made an integral part of this Resolution.
