GUIDELINES FOR TELEVISION CLASSIFICATION APPROVED BY THE MTRCB BOARD ON JULY 25, 1994



A
Children "C" Classification

Material classified "C" must not contain any matter likely to be unsuitable for pre-schoolers.

Programs that fall under the "C" classification are shows which promote wholesome positive values that support the children's formative growth.

A.1 Violence — None at all.

A.2 Sex and Nudity — None at all.

A.3 Language — The only language permitted must be correct, clear and simple.

Obscene language must be omitted.

B
General "G" Classification

Material classified "G" must not contain any matter likely to be unsuitable for children to watch without the supervision of a responsible adult.

B.1. Violence — Depiction of violence and the use of threatening language, weapons and special effects must not be likely to cause alarm or distress to children. Such must be strictly limited to the context or story line of the program and must not show violent behavior to be acceptable or desirable.

No overly realistic depictions of violence are permitted.

Any depiction of every reference to suicide not allowed.

B.2 Sex and Nudity — Depicting of and references sexual behavior must be limited and discreet, and must only be viewed in the context of a normal a healthy family life.

B.3 Language — Mild expletives like "ulol", "gago", "tarantado", "sirang-ulo", "walang-hiya", or double entendre may only be used in exceptional circumstances when absolutely justified by the story line or program context and only infrequently.

Obscene language and cuss words like "shit", "fuck", "leche", "putang-ina" and "coño" and other similarly objectionable words shall not be allowed.

B.4 Drugs — Depiction of actual intake or usage of drugs or other illegal substances shall not be allowed.

Use of legal drugs must be depicted with care.

C
Parental Guidance "PG" Classification

Material classified "PG" may contain adult themes or concepts, but must remain suitable for children to watch under the guidance of a parent or responsible adult.

C.1 Violence — Any violence depicted must be inexplicit, discreet or stylized and appropriate to the story line or program context. No graphic or gratuitous, bloody or horrific depictions of violence are permitted.

C.2 Sex and Nudity — Depictions of, and references to intimate sexual behavior must be discreet and appropriate to the story line or program context, and must not dominate the theme of a program.

Discreet portrayal of nudity may be allowed only when justified by the story line or program context.

(i.e. Therefore the bare top of the natives in "Christopher Columbus" may be allowed, but not Sharon Stone's provocative legwork' in "Basic Instinct".)

C.3 Language — Language which may be considered offensive or discriminatory may only be used in exceptional circumstances when absolutely justified by the story line or program context, and only infrequently.

Obscene language and cuss words like "shit", "fuck", "leche", "putang-ina" and "coño" and other similarly objectionable words shall not be allowed.

C.4 Drugs — Techniques for the consumption of illegal drugs must not be demonstrated, and illegal drugs must not be depicted favorably.

Use of legal drugs must be depicted with care.

C.5 Suicide — The depiction of suicide or attempted suicide must be discreet and stylized, and must not be depicted favorably as the means of achieving a desired result, or as an appropriate response to stress, depression or other problems.

Methods of suicide must not be depicted in realistic detail.

C.6 Theme — Themes detailing with important moral and/or social issues may be allowed provided they are factual, objective and balanced; and must avoid detail which may in itself seriously or offend viewers.
