[ PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 993, September 06, 1976 ]

EXTENDING THE BENEFITS OF PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NUMBERED NINE HUNDRED SEVEN TO HONOR GRADUATES OF SCHOOLYEARS PRIOR TO 1972-73.

WHEREAS, under Presidential Decree No. 907 I granted civil service eligibilities to honor graduates from schools, colleges and universities deemed to be in good standing by the Secretary of Education and Culture to encourage the accession of competent and qualified people into the civil service;

WHEREAS, considering that this rationale would apply equally to other honor graduates, I have deemed it wise and proper to extend the benefits of the Decree to honor graduates of schoolyears previous to schoolyear 1972-73; Now, therefore, I, Ferdinand E. Marcos, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby decree and order that:

SECTION 1. Section 5 of Presidential Decree No. 907 is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Section 5. * * *

Honor graduates during the schoolyears previous to 1972-73 shall likewise be conferred civil service eligibilities as provided in Presidential Decree No. 907. They shall, however, register with the Civil Service Commission or any of its regional offices, within six months after the approval of this Decree. The Civil Service Commission shall grant the eligibility in accordance with the rules and regulations promulgated for the purpose."

SEC. 2. This Decree shall take effect immediately.

Done in the City of Manila, this 6th day of September in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and seventy-six.
