[ PROCLAMATION NO. 736, November 27, 2004 ]

DECLARING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2004, AS THE NATIONAL DAY OF HUMILITY, REPENTANCE, FASTING AND PRAYER FOR OUR NATION

WHEREAS, the promotion of peace, justice and freedom in our land, together with the individual happiness, contentment and well-being of our people, is among highest aspirations of our government;

WHEREAS, our efforts for the attainment of this aspiration has been continually threatened by the lawless elements in our society, by people who merely seek to further their own vested interests, and by our individual shortcomings and transgressions;

WHEREAS, our efforts are further hampered by the serious economic difficulties, natural calamities and disasters that continue to plague our people;

WHEREAS, all these undesirable things we are experiencing are reminders of our frailties and limitations as a nation and as individuals, and that should lead us to realize of our ever need and dependence to God;

WHEREAS, in these trying times, it is appropriate that we reaffirm our faith to God, to draw strength and resiliency and to unite us a nation to triumph over all these adversities;

WHEREAS, it is high time that we cross religious boundaries for the sake of our beloved country and people;

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives passed Resolution No. 19 on November 8, 2004 requesting the President to declare November 30 as a National Day of Humility, Repentance, Fasting and Prayer for the healing of our nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare November 30 as the National Day of Humility, Repentance, Fasting and Prayer for our nation.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
