[ PROCLAMATION NO. 753, January 03, 2005 ]

DECLARING FRIDAY, JANUARY 7, 2005, AS THE DAY OF NATIONAL PRAYER AND MOURNING FOR ALL TSUNAMI VICTIMS



WHEREAS, the tsunami that hit the Asian region on December 26, 2004 has tolled on hundreds of thousands of human lives, including some Filipinos;

WHEREAS, this tragedy in the neighboring Asian countries has caused deep sorrow and grief not only to the people of the affected countries, but also among our people;

WHEREAS, it is fitting to set aside a day of national prayer and mourning to express the Filipinos’ grief over the tsunami’s human toll.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare a day of national prayer and mourning on Friday, January 7, 2005. On this day, the entire nation is enjoined to offer prayers for al the tsunami victims.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
