[ PROCLAMATION NO. 837, April 29, 2005 ]

DECLARING 2 MAY 2005, MONDAY, AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY



WHEREAS, Labor Day which is observed as a regular holiday on May 1st of each year, recognizes the contribution of the labor sector; both at home and abroad, to the economic development of our country.

WHEREAS, the commemoration of Labor Day falls this year on a Sunday; and

WHEREAS, 2 May 2005, Monday, may be declared as special (non-working) day pursuant to existing laws, rules and regulations.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, by order of Her Excellency GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, do hereby declare the following:

SECTION 1. 2 May 2005, Monday, shall be a special (non-working) day throughout the country.

SECTION 2. All activities and celebration in observance of Labor Day shall, however, remain to be observed on 1 May 2005, Sunday;

SECTION 3. The Department of Labor and Employment shall issue the appropriate guidelines to implement this Proclamation.

DONE in the City of Manila, this 29th day of April, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Five.
