REGULATION AND MONITORING OF THE MANDATORY FORTIFICATION OF STAPLES (RICE, SUGAR, FLOUR AND COOKING OIL) AND THEIR UTILIZATION BY FOOD PROCESSORS AS INGREDIENTS



This is in relation to the compliance of the food industry to the mandatory fortification of staples: cooking oil and sugar with vitamin A, flour with iron and vitamin A and rice with iron by 07 November 2004.

All processed foods for registration that have the above mentioned food ingredients should use the fortified form according to RA 8976 Section 6 a and b and Section 11 starting 07 November 2004.

Should the industry wish to be exempted on this, they should submit a science based documentation on why the product should be exempted from using the staple fortified ingredients as per Rule X Section 2 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations for RA 8976.
