HONG KONG INCREASES MINIMUM ALLOWANCE WAGE AND FOOD ALLOWANCE TO FOREIGN DOMESTIC HELPERS



The Hong Kong Labour Department announced the increase in the Minimum Allowance Wage (MAW) and food allowance for Foreign Domestic Helpers (FDHs).

Effective 01 October 2013, the new minimum allowance wage would not be less than HK$4,010.00 (a HK$90 monthly increase from HK$3,920), while the food allowance would not be less than HK$920 (a HK$45 increase from HK$875).

The increase is applicable to all contracts signed on or after 01 October 2013. The existing MAW of HKS$3,920 and food allowance of HK$875 will still be accepted provided that the contracts are signed on or before 01 October 2013 and processed by the Philippine Consulate on or before 28 October 2013.
