[ MARINA ADVISORY NO. 2014-06, April 02, 2014 ]

MARINE DECK AND ENGINE OFFICERS LICENSURE EXAMINATION AND CERTIFICATION

Date Filed: 02 April 2014

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10635 – “An act establishing the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) as the single maritime administration responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the 1978 International Convention on Standards, Trainings, Certifications and Watchkeeping, as amended and international agreements or covenants related thereto”, the MARINA assumes the powers, duties and functions of the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) on examination and licensing and certification system for marine deck and engine officers once the law takes effect on 28 March 2014 (i.e., 15 days from its publication in the Official Gazette). In the interest of the smooth transition of the above powers, duties, and functions, and to avoid unnecessary disruption in the delivery of services to seafarers, all concerned are informed that the PRC shall continue to discharge its licensure examination function for marine deck and engine officers until further notice and until such time as MARINA shall have fully established procedures relative to the transfer and assumption of functions.

This Advisory takes effect immediately upon publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
