(NAR) VOL. 12 NO. 1 / JANUARY - MARCH 2001

[ DECS ORDER NO. 72, s. 2000, November 22, 2000 ]

REITERATING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES (AFP) MEMBERS AND THEIR DEPENDENTS

1.         This Department hereby reiterates the implementation of the provisions of Presidential Decree Nos. 1687 and 577 as embodied in DECS Order No. 63, s. 1995 and Department Order No. 5, s. 1975.

2.         Presidential Decree No. 1687 exempts Medal of Valor awardees and their heirs/beneficiaries from payment of tuition and matriculation fees in educational institutions in all levels including pre-school and post-graduate courses.

3.         On the other hand, Presidential Decree No. 577 exempts dependents of AFP members who died or were incapacitated in the line of duty since September 21, 1972 from payment of tuition and matriculation fees in educational institutions except pre-school, post-graduate courses and selected baccalaureate degree courses.

4.         The Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has noted that there are still some schools that refuse to honor the provisions of PD 1687 and 577 and would compel qualified AFP dependents to pay the assessed tuition and matriculation fee.

5.         This Office directs all concerned educational institutions of their part in implementing the provisions of certain laws and other legally-binding agreements.

6.         Immediate dissemination of and compliance with this Order is directed.
