[ MTC RESOLUTION NO. 01, S. 2004, February 18, 2004 ]

EXTENDING THE EFFECTIVITY OF THE INTERIM ARRANGEMENT IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE APPROVED EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR MANAGEMENT LEVEL OFFICERS UNDER CHAPTER II AND III OF THE STCW CONVENTION, AS AMENDED

WHEREAS, the approved education and training for Maritime Officers who are candidates for certification to the Management Level responsibilities under the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended, are the modified IMO Model Course Nos. 7.01 and 7.02 for the Marine Deck and Engineer Officer, respectively;

WHEREAS, considering the constraint in the immediate implementation of the above courses, an interim arrangement was authorized by the Maritime Training Council (COUNCIL) under Resolution Nos. 06 and 08, series of 2002, passed and approved on 21 February 2002;

WHEREAS, such interim arrangement expired on 01 February 2004 making the above mentioned modified IMO Model Courses as the mandatory training requirements for all candidates for certification at the management level;

WHEREAS, considering that the training program for the modified IMO Model Courses has not been implemented prior to 01 February 2004, it now becomes imperative that the interim arrangement be extended.

NOW, THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the foregoing premises the COUNCIL RESOLVES as it is hereby RESOLVED that the interim arrangement under Resolution Nos. 06 and 08, series of 2002, for marine deck and engineer officers, respectively, is hereby extended for one (1) year.
