(NAR) VOL. 7 NO. 3 / JULY-SEPTEMBER 1996

[ DOLE DEPARTMENT ORDER NO. 24, August 20, 1996 ]

UPGRADING OF BENEFITS UNDER THE SUGAR WORKERS MATERNITY AND DEATH BENEFIT PROGRAM

The Implementation of another One Peso (P1.00) increase in SAP lien effective CY 1995-1996, as provided for in Department Order No. 23 (s. of 1995) has resulted to the imposition of a P7.00 levy per picul of raw sugar produced. The increment proportionately increases the allocation for the Sugar Workers Maternity and Death Benefit Programs fromP0.18toP0.21 andP0.30toP0.35, respectively.

In cognizance to the clamor of sugar workers and their beneficiaries and, upon establishing the viability of upgrading both welfare benefits based on the study conducted by the Bureau of Rural Workers, the Sugar Tripartite Council endorses the grant of increase from P1,500 to P2.000 (maternity) and P4.000 to P5.000 (death) benefits.

In view hereof, it is hereby ordered that every complete delivery, miscarriage or abortion; and death of covered sugar workers occurring on September 1, 1996 onwards shall be entitled to P2.000 maternity and P5.000 death benefits, respectively.

This Order does not preclude the grant of other increases in the future.

Adopted: 20 Aug. 1996
