[ POEA ADVISORY NO. 01, s. 2007, January 23, 2007 ]

TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PROCESSING AND DEPLOYMENT OF ALL FILIPINO WORKERS TO NIGERIA

Pursuant to Department Order No. 78-07, dated 22 January 2007, series of 2007, issued by Secretary Arturo D. Brion, in the light of repeated incidents of kidnapping of Filipino workers due to the political situation in Nigeria and in order to ensure the continued safety and security of our OFWs, contract processing and deployment of both landbased and seabased workers to Nigeria are temporarily suspended until further orders. All licensed agencies are advised to inform their principals of the temporary ban on the processing and deployment of all Filipino workers to Nigeria.

Agencies are likewise reminded that violation of the temporary suspension order is a serious offense as it is an act inimical to public interest. Those found violating the ban on deployment shall be meted with the penalty of cancellation of license.

For information and compliance of all concerned.
