[ PRC BOARD OF MARINE DECK OFFICERS RESOLUTION NO. 05, S. 1999, April 16, 1999 ]
ALLOWING THE USE OF ORDINARY SCIENTIFIC CALCULATORS AND STRICT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROHIBITION AGAINST THE POSSESSION OR USE OF PROGRAMMABLE CALCULATORS, CELLULAR PHONES, BEEPERS, WRIST WATCHES WITH CALCULATORS AND BOOKS, NOTES, REVIEW MATERIALS, ETC. INSIDE THE EXAMINATION ROOM DURING THE MARINE DECK OFFICERS LICENSURE EXAMINATIONS
WHEREAS, in view of the lengthy mathematical calculations or computations involved in solving problems in the Marine Deck Officers Licensure Examination subjects, there is a need for the use of calculators to aid the examinees;
WHEREAS, in view of the prohibition against the use of programmable calculators, in Sec. 10-A, Art. Ill of the Rules and Regulations Governing the Regulation and Practice of Professionals, as amended by PRC Res. No. 463, Series of 1996, the only calculators that can be allowed to be used inside the examination room are ordinary scientific calculators: and
WHEREAS, in the same Sec. 10-A "The possession or use x x x of books, notes, review materials and other printed written materials containing principles or excerpts thereof, coded data/information/formulas which are relevant, pertinent, relative to or connected in the subject under examination x x x" is likewise prohibited.
WHEREFORE, the Board hereby resolves to allow examinees in the Marine Deck Officers Licensure Examinations to bring and use ordinary scientific calculators only inside the examination room. The types or brands enumerated hereunder and other types or brands which, after inspection inside the examination rooms, are considered as belonging to or similar to those enumerated hereunder are prohibited during the said examinations:
1. Casio FX 50F
2. Casio FX 61F
3. Casio FX 200P
4. Casio FX 3400P
5. Casio FX 3600P
6. Casio FX 3600PV
7. Casio FX 3800P
8. Casio FX 41 OOP
9. Calculator with FMLA key
10 Casio 603P
11. Calculator with ALPHA (A-Z) keys
12. Calculator with PROG key
13 Calculator with PI, Pll, PIll, PIV keys
14. Calculator with P1 & P2 keys
15 Calculator with RUN key
16. Casio DOT Matrix LCD
17. PorpoYH-105 (clock & scientific calculator with window) 18. Other brands/types are still subject to inspection
FURTHERMORE, the Board hereby enjoins the personnel of the Commission assigned in the licensure examination for Marine Deck Officer to strictly implement this Resolution in the April 17, 18 and 19, 1999 and subsequent examinations, and the provisions of Sec. 10-A, Art. Ill of the Rules and Regulations Governing the Practice of Professionals which shall also be reproduced in the Program of Examinations.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately.
The Executive Director, Director of the Licensure, Chief of the Examination Division, Chief of the Marine Deck Officers Division and all Regional Directors shall be issued with copies of this Resolution for dissemination to all examinees.
