(NAR) VOL. III NO. 4 / OCTOBER - DECEMBER 1992

[ BFAD MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 25 S. 1992, October 15, 1992 ]

ADDITIONAL LABELLING REQUIREMENT FOR FOOD SUPPLEMENTS

Food Supplement as defined under Administrative Order No. 62 s. 1968 refers to those used for supplementing or fortifying the ordinary or usual diet with any vitamin, mineral or other dietary property.  Any such particular use of a food is a special dietary use, regardless of whether such food also purports to be or is represented for general use.

To ensure that such products are not commercially sold or advertised with therapeutic claims, the Bureau of Food and Drugs has been requiring applicants for registration to print on the label the words “No approved therapeutic claims”.

This circular confirms this requirement for the guidance of all concerned.

Adopted: 15 Oct. 1992
