(NAR) VOL. IV NO. 3 / JULY - SEPTEMBER 1993

[ PPC (DTC) CIRCULAR NO. 93-25, July 07, 1993 ]

PROHIBITED ARTICLES, FRUIT CARTONS, REQUESTS BY AUSTRALIA

The postal administration of Australia through International Bureau Circular No. 220 dated 21 June 1993 has advised that as a result of representations from the Australian Quarantine Service, its Administration would like to remind member countries that the importation into Australia of fruit cartons of any description, whether new or used, is prohibited.  This prohibition is listed in Australia’s section in the List of Prohibited Articles published by the Universal Postal Union.

The administration of Australia incurs significant expense as a result of having to repack numerous postal parcels sent to Australia in fruit cartons.  The quarantining and repacking of such parcels also cause inevitably delay in delivery.  Therefore, the administration of Australia respectfully requests the cooperation of all member countries in this matter.

Regional Directors, Asst. Regional Directors, Chief Postal Service Officers, Postmasters, Supervisory Officials and employees concerned are hereby enjoined to bring this matter to the attention of postal personnel and the mailing public.

Adopted: 07 July 1993
