(NAR) VOL. 13 NOS. 1-4 / OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2002

[ PPA MEMORANDUM, June 21, 2002 ]

DIRTY EMPTY LIVESTOCK CONTAINERS

As taken up in the PMAC Meeting of 20 June 2002, it has been observed that shipping lines’ vessels discharge dirty livestock container vans at the Port of General Santos and the same are cleaned inside the port area in preparation for stuffing of outgoing livestock cargoes.  In effect, the Port of General Santos is used as cleaning area for dirty/unsanitary empty livestock containers vans.

In this connection, effective 01 July 2002, this Authority reserves the right not to service dirty empty livestock container vans inside the Port of General Santos.  As the practice before, such container van should be cleaned by the shipping lines concerned prior to ship call at the Port of General Santos.  Otherwise the shipping lines concerned should take the dirty container vans out of the port area for cleaning at their own container yards, before these vans are made ready for stuffing of livestock inside the port premises.

This Office enjoins the cooperation of all concerned to help the Port of General Santos maintain its image as one of the cleanest ports in the Philippines.

Adopted: 21 June 2002
