MODIFIED ENTRANCE SYSTEM AND SECURITY CHECK MEASURES AT PORT GATES AT PORT OF GENERAL SANTOS



As agreed during the Port Security Committee Meeting on 06 May 2002 at PPA Phil-Am Friendship Hall, the following modified entrance system and multiple security check/inspection measures shall be implemented effective 08 May 2002 at the Port of General Santos:

1.         Main Gate

(a)    The Main Gate shall be used strictly for pedestrians.  A multiple checking/inspection of passenger’s/pedestrians’ belongings or piece of baggage shall be undertaken at Main Gate for security reasons.

(b)    Its two gates shall be opened especially during arrival of passenger vessels: the western side as express lane for pedestrians/passengers with small number of belongings and the eastern side for those with large number of belongings and for baggage on push carts.

(c)     Tickets shall be required for outgoing passengers.  Personnel of government agencies and private entities whose offices are located inside the port area as well as port workers shall be required to wear their office/company IDs.

2.         North gate

(a)    The North Gate shall be used for entrance of private vehicles in addition to the usual cargo vehicles. No pedestrians shall be allowed entry and exit at the North gate.

(b)    All vehicles, including motorcycles, shall be subject to checking at the North Gate for validation of their purpose of entry and for initial inspection of the vehicle and persons on board the vehicle.

(c)        Tickets shall be required from outgoing passengers in private vehicles.

(d)    Meeting parties for disembarking passengers may be allowed entry subject to the security checking and inspection at the North gate.

(e)    Persons on motorcycles may be allowed entry subject to the security checking and inspection at the North gate.

(f)      Personnel of government and private offices located inside the port area using government or private vehicles shall be required their office/company IDs, if necessary.

3.         Holding Area at North Gate

(a)    After initial entrance security checks at the North Gate, all vehicles including motorcycles shall be required to proceed to the designated Holding Area located at the Chassis Area near the North Gate for further checking and inspection of the vehicles and persons on board the vehicles.

(b)       Engine hoods and baggage compartment doors of the vehicles shall be opened for security inspection.

(c)     After security inspection at the Holding Area, vehicles may proceed to the designated Parking Area or to the respective government or company offices inside the port area.
