[ PRC PROFESSIONAL REGULATORY BOARD OF DENTISTRY RESOLUTION NO. 53, S. 2010, December 15, 2010 ]

AMENDMENT OF GUIDELINES 1, 2 AND 6 OF RESOLUTION NO. 03, SERIES OF 2009



WHEREAS, the Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry, the Board, issued Res, No. 03, Series of 2009, “Guidelines for the Implementation of the One-Year Refresher Course for Examinees Who Failed Three Times in the Board Licensure Examinations for Dentists, Dental Hygienists, and Dental Technologists as a Requirement for Taking Subsequent Examinations”;

WHEREAS, in the absence of a specified period for each of the said refresher courses in R.A. No. 9484, known as “The Philippine Dental Act of 2007”, and Res. No. 12, Series of 2007, known as the “Rules and Regulations of the Philippine Dental Act of 2007”, the Board provided for, in the aforesaid Res. No. 03, Series of 2009, these refresher courses’ periods: minimum of 1-year for an examinee-dentist, an examinee-dental hygienist, and an examinee-dental technologist (Guidelines 1, 2 and 6); and

WHEREAS, the Board, after consultation with the institutions offering the courses for the aforestated levels/grades, deemed it equitable and practical to reduce the afore- mentioned periods and to make them not uniform for all the foregoing levels, holding that the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine is a longer course than that of the Certificate of Dental Hygiene and of the Certificate of Dental Technology;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board resolves, as it is hereby resolved, to amend Guidelines Nos. 1, 2, and 6 of Res. No. 03, Series of 2009, which shall read now, to wit:

“1.Examinees who failed in three (3) Board licensure examinations within a period of five years or have not taken the Board licensure examination for the past five years for dentists shall be required to enroll in a refresher course for a minimum of SIX (6) MONTHS, covering all the subjects in the Theoretical and Practical Phases in a CHED recognized and accredited dental schools/ colleges/universities offering the course of dentistry.”

“2.Examinees who failed in three (3) Board licensure examinations within a period of five years or has not taken the Board licensure examination for the past five years for dental hygienists or dental technologists shall be required to enroll in a refresher course for a minimum of TWO (2) MONTHS, covering all the subjects in CHED/TESDA recognized and accredited dental school, college or university of dental hygiene and/or dental technology.”

“6.The deans of dentistry where the concerned examinees are enrolled shall, after the refresher course enrollees shall have completed the minimum SIX (6) MONTHS/TWO (2) MONTHS [one school year] refresher course, issue a certification that, on the basis of the performance and reports of attendance submitted by professor/s of the subjects where said refresher course enrollees are enrolled, the refresher course enrollees have satisfactorily completed the prescribed minimum SIX (6) MONTHS/TWO (2) MONTHS [one school year] refresher course.”

FURTHER, RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution shall be given to all concerned schools, colleges, and universities offering the course in dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental technology for compliance therewith and for dissemination to their graduates.

This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its full and complete publication in the Official Gazette, or in a major daily newspaper of general circulation in the Philippines.
