[ POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 53, S. 1995, September 07, 1995 ]

STIFFER PENALTY FOR DRUG-RELATED CRIMES IN KUWAIT

Relative to travel advisories emanating from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the pre-departure orientation program, all concerned are informed that the penalty for drug-related crimes in Kuwait has been increased from a maximum of life term to death.

The Kuwait Drug Law which took effect on 23 August 1995 stipulates obligatory death penalty for repeated smuggling, trafficking, extracting, manufacturing of drugs and growing drug plants. Drug dealers are covered by the stiffer penalty.

All concerned are enjoined to disseminate said information during PDOS to caution departing OCWs on the consequences of drug-related offense in that country.

For information and compliance.
