[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1070, June 12, 1954 ]

AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT TO ISSUE APPROPRIATE CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION TO WIDOWS, PARENTS AND NEXT OF KIN OF MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES WHO LOST OR SHALL LOSE THEIR LIVES IN LINE OF DUTY.



Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. The President is hereby authorized to issue an appropriate certificate or token acknowledging the debt of the Filipino people to widows, parents and next of kin of members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who have lose or shall lose their lives in line of duty during World War II or during any war or period of armed conflict involving the security of the Philippines.

SEC. 2. Such certificates of appreciation shall be issued such widows, parents and next of kin upon application to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. As used in this Act:
  1. The term "widow" shall include widower.
  2. The term "parents" shall include mother, father, step-mother, step-father, mother or father through adoption, and foster parents who stood in loco parentis.
  3. The term "next of kin" shall include children, stepchildren, children through adoption, brothers, sisters, half-brothers and half-sisters.
  4. The term "World War II" shall include the period extending from December eight, nineteen hundred and forty-one to July twenty-fifth, nineteen hundred and forty-seven.
SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
